Gang, pitchers and catchers report in four weeks. So I guess it’s time to do a little off-season cleanup.

While most of the important dates and other stuff will be posted when I do the next newsletter sometime around the first week of February, there is one date I wanted to clear up because several of you have asked me about it.

Years ago, we voted that the draft would always be the first Friday of April. This year, that is April 7 (which is the latest it can possibly be). Just wanted to get this out there in case, like me, you haven’t booked yet.

The main impetus for getting something out now is the end-of-year roster cleanup. As you know, you may only protect the rights one guy among any group of linked players. You are not required to keep the player you designate on Roster Freeze Day, you are just protecting your right to do so. This move does not cost any money and has the benefit of making 37 players immediately available in the draft pool. If you ultimately keep a player on Roster Freeze Day that is currently on your reserve roster, you will a $5 activation fee into this year’s prize pool.

I am setting a deadline of Sunday, Feb. 5 to get in those players you want to protect the rights to. If you do not get back with me by Feb. 5, I will cut loose the players on reserve and leave the active player on your team
